Fishing for Litter Scotland 2008-2011 Learn more about the latest phase of our pioneering project
Fishing for Litter Scotland 2008 - 2011 was officially launched on December 10th 2008 at the Scottish Parliament by Mr Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment.
Through the participation of local fishermen, this project is designed to recover marine litter whilst raising awareness for the significant detrimental impact such waste can have on the marine environment. Over 100 boats and a large collection of harbours signed up to participate in the Scottish initiative between 2005 and 2008. This project is co-ordinated by KIMO, an international association of Local authorities, which campaign on marine pollution issues that affect coastal communities.
Fishing for Litter Scotland 2008 - 2011 Ministerial Launch: L-R Ann Hunter (Peterson SBS), Brian O’Neill (TOTAL), Richard Lochhead (Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and Environment), Norman MacDonald (KIMO Vice Chair and WIC), David Phillip (Crown Estate), Rick Nickerson (KIMO) and Tom Piper (KIMO).
