This year’s event will be hosted by the City of Malmö and Lomma municipalities. The dialogue seminars, technical visits and dinners will take place in Malmö whereas the KIMO AGM will take place in Lomma.
KIMO is pleased to be included in the City of Malmö’s plans for the ‘LIFE BELOW WATER – Local Implementation of Global Goal 14’ Conference. KIMO delegates will have the unique opportunity to network with a wide range of fellow participants who share an interest in protecting our marine environment.
As a part of the UN’s work with its global sustainable development goals, Sweden and Fiji have been given joint overall responsibility for supporting the implementation of goal 14 – Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. As a consequence, the City of Malmö is hosting the Life Below Water Conference between 11 – 13 October 2017 , an international conference with the purpose to help boost local implementation of UN goal 14. Local work is critical in the delivery of the UN goal and Malmö is one of the cities at the forefront by demonstrating how work towards sustainability generates local development and societal benefit.
Confirmed Key Note speakers, Karolina Skog, Minister for the Environment, Ministry of the environment and Energy, Dr Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, World Maritime University and Frederic Hauge, Founder and President of Bellona.
Life Below Water provides an opportunity for all who work in some way or other with sea-related issues to present their progress and solutions, as well as to meet and discuss new initiatives. A collaboration will be entered into with World Maritime University for the purpose of planning the conference.
The conference offers a range of interesting technical visits and seminars, all on the theme of the sea, linked to global goal 14, but also show the overall picture of the work with Agenda 2030 – Global Goals for Sustainable Development. During the technical visits, in and around Malmö, the important work being done will be presented to the participants.
The conference days will attract a broad audience, spanning the public and private sectors, academia and civil society from all across Europe.
The KIMO Annual General Meeting will be held in Lomma on Friday 13 October.
We look forward to seeing you in Sweden!
