We are an international local government network representing more than five million citizens in eight northern European countries.
Alongside our five national KIMO networks – in Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom – we have independent members in the Faroe Islands, Germany and Lithuania.

Our members work hard for healthy seas, clean beaches and thriving coastal communities.
We are a democratic organisation. Therefore KIMO members agree an annual workplan and budget at an Annual General Meeting, held each autumn. Our International Board of Directors consists of the Chairs of each member network. The Board is responsible for managing our work programme and budget.
The Presidency Team consists of a President and Senior and Junior Vice Presidents. They are elected for two-year terms at every other Annual General Meeting. In addition to providing political guidance, the Presidency team also oversees the International Secretariat, hosted by Shetland Islands Council, in Lerwick, UK. The Secretariat is responsible for the day-to-day running of the organisation, coordination between KIMO members, and for the implementation of the work programme.
Each KIMO network also has a management board and a coordinator, which report back to the International Board. The National Coordinators focus on the implementation of projects and work with current and potential members to develop the network.
